In 2006, The Birth Center (in conjunction with Prolacta Bioscience) opened up The Milk Bank--the Sacramento area's only breast milk bank. The Milk Bank provides breast milk for premature infants hospitalized in local neonatal intensive care units. Breast feeding mothers can voluntarily donate their extra breast milk to The Milk Bank for processing and distribution to preemies. Donors do not need to be clients of The Birth Center.
Become a Breast Milk Donor
If you are breast feeding and produce extra breast milk, consider donating it to The Milk Bank. Becoming a donor is simple; the steps are outlined below:
Access Prolacta's Online Interview website by clicking HERE. On this site, you'll be able to read FAQs on donation, and fill out an online application which is secure and confidential.
Contact The Birth Center and inform them of your interest. You'll be scheduled for a blood draw. Which will occur at The Birth Center
Complete your blood draw at your visit and submit the completed forms.
Upon approval, The Milk Bank gives you collection bags, trains you on how to collect and store the milk, and shows you how to properly clean the pump and bottles. That's it!
