PRENATAL

Your prenatal visits will be with our Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) staff. These appointments offer you the opportunity to develop a rapport with each other as your CNM checks on the healthy progression of your pregnancy and helps you create your birth plan.

Each visit allows time for your questions to be discussed and answered to your satisfaction. There are also topics that CNM will bring up during the course of your pregnancy care in preparation for your birth experience to increase your knowledge and comfort as you prepare for labor and birth. Additionally, at each visit your blood pressure, measurement of fetal growth, and listening to your babies heartbeat will always be done.

BIRTH

Our CNM will be available for questions during your early labor at home prior to coming to The Birth Center. It is in talking with our CNM that it is determined that best time for you to arrive at The Birth Center. Once you arrive and are admitted, one of our birth assistants/doula’s will be arrive to assist you during your labor as is needed. The CNM will be present from your admission, continually assessing both you and your baby through frequent listening to your babies heart rate, assessing labor progress, and monitoring of vital signs. Our team works together to allow you as much privacy you may need or as much assistance. We work to treat each laboring woman as a unique individual and try and provide just what you need for your labor and birth. Shortly before birth one of our RN staff members will arrive to support in birth and the postpartum time as well. One of our birth team will remain with you after your birth to ensure that you and your baby are ready to return home.

POSTPARTUM

After your birth, The Birth Center provides immediate postpartum care and support for you and your baby until you are ready for discharge to home. This will usually be in the first 3-4 hours post birth of your baby.

One of our licensed staff will follow up by phone the next day after birth to check on you and your baby, and answer any questions that might come up. During that phone call check, a two-day office follow up visit for you and your baby will be scheduled. During the 2 day visit vital signs for you and baby will be taken, and breastfeeding will be assessed and supported as needed. CCHD testing and Newborn Metabolic Screening (“heelstick”) both for baby will be completed. Additionally, we provide two-week and six-week office visits with our CNM staff. Our CNM is available by phone for important questions or concerns that may arise after birth 24/7.

BREASTFEEDING

Breastfeeding assistance is provided to you immediately after your birth, during your postpartum office visits, and by phone. Our International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) is also available by appointment to provide more intensive assistance if needed, including diagnosis and treatment of tongue and lip-tie.

GYNECOLOGY

We offer preconception counseling, gynecological exams/pap smears, perimenopausal/menopausal hormonal, and alternative hormonal care. Each woman is encouraged to be involved in their care and choices through education and discussion with The Birth Center CNM.
